Abstract
This article presents the basic phases of the development and research instrumentation and control system (ICS) functional safety Markov models on the basis of the self-diagnosing programmable platform. The set of the models sets is obtained on the basis of the failure tree development and analysis, which includes the ICS hardware channels detected and undetected failures. There the classification of ICS in a normal operation mode, considering the different majority body modes and diagnostics levels is presented. The application of the models has allowed determining the boundaries of the ICS safety integrity level 3 (SIL3) in two-dimensional space of the input parameters and system operational time. © 2016 by the paper authors.
