M.; Kharchenko, V.; Moskalets, V.; Odarushchenko, O. B.; Strjuk, O.; Одарущенко, Олег Миколайович; Одарущенко, Олена БорисівнаMarkov modeling is a well-known analytical state space modeling technique which is widely applied for quantitative analysis of safety-critical systems. There are few roadblocks for greater application of Markov modeling: accounting of additional system components increases the model state space and complicates analysis; the non-numerically sophisticated user may find it difficult to select method and tool to provide an accurate analysis of constructed Markov model. Thus, achieving highly trusted result for safety-critical systems is a nontrivial task. In this paper we present the case-study on application of Markov modeling with deep testing the model features, for safety analysis of industrial self-diagnostic, programmable FPGA-based Instrumentation and Control system which operates on Nuclear Power Plant.Item Availability as a cloud service for control system of critical energy infrastructure(CEUR-WS, 2018) Ivanchenko, O.; Kharchenko, V.; Moroz, B.; Kabak, L.; Smoktii, K.; Ponochovnyi, Y. L.; Mustafa Qahtan Abdulmunem, A.-S.; Andrashov, A.; Поночовний, Юрій ЛеонідовичThe paper deals with developing and researching Markov’s models and assessing of the availability of Instrumentation and control systems which are a part of smart building automation system (BAS). It was determined that the causes of failures and unavailability of the BAS component architecture can be hardware (physical), software (design) faults, and successful attacks on vulnerabilities (interaction faults), first of all. BAS failures are related to reliability issue, attacks on vulnerabilities is related to security issue. These two reason groups are considered as elements of two disjoint sets. The paper presents the detailed analysis of the BAS architecture consisting of control (FPGA-based), communication (ZigBee) and data levels considering their faults and vulnerabilities. Besides, maintenance procedures (without, common and separate maintenance for reliability and security) are described.Item AvTA Based Assessment of Dependability Considering Recovery After Failures and Attacks on Vulnerabilities(2019) Ponochovnyi, Y. L.; Illiashenko, O.; Поночовний, Юрій ЛеонідовичThe paper contains the results of the development and implementation of a cybernetic approach to the creation of resilient systems. The architecture of a resilient system contains redundant components compared to a traditional feedback control system. This is primarily due to the need to implement additional channels in the control system to respond to changes in requirements, environment, or unspecified faults and failures. The general structure of a resilient system is based on the principle of dividing control channels for functional and non-functional characteristics. This allows to react to changes in the information component of the environment during attacks on the system to ensure its cybersecurity. The case for a space resiient system with online verification is described. Three scenarios of the system behaviour to assure resilience are suggested and the first scenario is explored by the use of Markov model. That allows offering options for improving availability function and other indicators of resilient systems.Item Dependability Assessment for SCADA System Considering Usage of Cloud Resources(2020-05) Ivanchenko, O.; Kharchenko, V.; Brezhnev, E.; Ponochovnyi, Y. L.; Ivanchenko, O.; Kharchenko, V.; Udovyk, I.; Baiev, E.; Поночовний, Юрій ЛеонідовичThe article proposes a method for assessing the availability of the cloud system taking into account the variable dynamics of attacks on vulnerabilities Content Delivery Network (CDN), The architecture of the cloud system for video hosting services is detailed, on the basis of which an example of simulation in the conditions of cyberattacks, software and hardware failures is given. An availability model based on the Reliability Block Diagram (RBD), a Markov model (MMC) with constant parameters of failure and recovery rates, and a multifragment (MFM) model with a variable parameter that estimates the probability of attacks have been developed and studied. Two scenarios of events that affect the availability of the system are considered: the first - in the absence of attacks on the CDN component; the second - in attacks that cause an increase in the CDN failure rate to the limit level. A comparative analysis of RBD, MMC and MFM and assessment of discrepancies in the simulation results were performed. The use of Big Data analytics and ML tools is proposed for parametrization of models. The obtained simulation results can be used not only by users of cloud systems, but also by Cloud Service Providers (CSP) to improve planning procedures and risk assessment of failures.Item Monte-Carlo simulation and availability assessment of the smart building automation systems considering component failures and attacks on vulnerabilities(Springer Verlag, 2019) Kharchenko, V.; Ponochovnyi, Y. BAS security and availability during its life cycle are assessed using the Markov models and Monte-Carlo simulation. Markov model is used to calculate BAS availability considering the possibility of recovery and different kinds of the faults. The Monte-Carlo simulation is applied to investigate any flow of intrusions into the BAS by analyzing system availability of a fault/vulnerability to occur during time depending on failure rate of its subsystems. The results of analytical and simulation modeling are compared to assure trustworthiness of availability assessment taking into account attacks on vulnerabilities
